He still felt it. A particular warmth brought Luqia to a standstill, gazing across the frozen inlet. The light in the sky brought the distant archway to life. He kept looking up, not only because he didn’t want to take his eyes off it, but because of the sting in his eyes.
It wasn’t so serene the last time Luqia stood before this gate. Clutching the bouquet to his chest, he finally looked down, shaking his head and blinking away the tears. Petals lifted from the trembling zinnias, lingering in the air before getting swept along by the waves. And before he knew it, he was alone again, blanketed in a familiar cold.
